Chuffed to finally view The Mick Ronson Story who died on this day 25 years ago. Here is a fair critical review by Michael Bonner in Uncut. I was, as were the many there, very fortunate to have last seen Ronson, unbeknownst to us closing the circle with Ian Hunter and Bowie at the Freddie Mercury memorial concert, also memorable because of that deeply unfashionable gesture, Bowie’s recitation of the Lord’s Prayer (Ronson died a year later). My other favourite Hullensian was Philip Larkin. Below is Woody (aka “Gilly” immortalized with Trevor as “Weird and Gilly” in the song Ziggy Stardust) at the unveiling of the Spiders’ blue plaque joining Larkin’s statue at Hull station. The University of Hull is also where the Centre for Idealism and the New Liberalism is based.
