Andrew Sullivan Lecture: On conservatism

Andrew’s target is primarily the co-option of religious fundamentalism into the public arena – a cast of mind that is neither religious nor political, nor indeed “conservative” since these folk have a radical agenda. For more on this topic see my essay: Can political conclusions be derived from religious premisses? I no longer think it helpful to invoke the words “conservative” or “liberal” on two grounds:

(a) these terms have been misappropriated by sloppy conceptual thinking; and

(b) there is a lot more fluidity between ideologies than is usually acknowledged.
